Client: Arkansas Literacy Councils (ALC) is the statewide non-profit that provides structure and support to county-level literacy councils serving adults in over 50 Arkansas counties. These councils offer free instructional tutoring to adults who want to learn to read, write or speak English better. ALC also operates a 40-member AmeriCorps program, Arkansas Reads, which places service volunteers at 23 literacy councils throughout the state.
Challenge: This web site presented a unique challenge: create a site that was easy to use for those of all literacy levels. This web site uses icon based navigation along with visual guides and video throughout to help lead users to useful information. A local program finder gets visitors connected with a program in their area and an interactive calendar promotes events throughout Arkansas. This site is fully responsive to help ensure access to resources are available to visitors on all devices.
