When it comes to marketing, there’s an old alliteration that can benefit any marketer, whether they’re new to the business or a veteran of the industry. By following the three simple Ps of marketing, anyone can start to build an effective, lasting marketing effort. The Ps are positioning, presentation, and panache.
1. Positioning
Positioning is all about the identity of a business and its products or services. It’s what makes the company stand out from competitors, and the identifying factor that will give a business a leg up in the industry.
Positioning is about what your company or products can do for customers that they can’t get elsewhere. What problems or pain points do you solve best, or cheapest, or quickest? This is your position.
To determine your position, it’s always good to develop your simple elevator pitch. If you had 30 seconds to tell someone about your business and products and how it will benefit their lives, what would you say? How would it convince them to choose you as their vendor above all others? This is your position.
2. Presentation
Knowing your position isn’t enough. You have to present it in a way that’s understandable and well received by your target audience. How you present yourself, your company, and your products or services becomes your brand.
It’s important to remember that your CEO isn’t the only face of the company. Any employee is a representative of your company identity and brand, so it’s imperative that your employees understand how to present your company. In some cases, this means wearing a uniform or badge, or staying united in messaging when speaking with customers or partners.
3. Panache
The final P is the thing that gives your marketing that extra umph. It’s usually not something you can define, but it’s apparent in the lives of your employees, and it’s something customers can sense.
This could be the company culture, or the friendly customer service or sales reps, or the additional effort put into designing or furnishing the workplace. It’s that extra step that shows you have it together and want to present something that exceeds anything your competitors are offering.
